If you read Yoga Web Design’s marketing guide, you will know that optimizing your Google My Business Page is HUGE being visible when people search for your services in their area. Find out here how to become more visible in your area!

Step 1: Claim or verify your business

Visit business.google.com either claim your business by using the search box OR create your business following the steps.

Google will verify that you are the owner of the business by mailing you a postcard. Follow the instructions to verify the business.

Step 2: Add your basic information

If you have not already added your basic information in the process of creating your business, go ahead and to that in the dashboard. The more information you add the better so add every detail! Adding more information not only gives Google more opportunities to know your services, but it also helps potential customers know what you offer in case that is what they are looking for. Make sure all the information is in and filled out correctly.

One thing you do not want to overlook is adding photos. There is a positive correlation between Google My Business performance and having at least 5 photos.

For the Appointment URL we suggest adding the URL that comes with your Yoga Web Design site.

Step 3: secure your short name

One thing that can make it easier for students to find you is to create a short name.

When you share your short name, customers can enter the name’s URL in the browser’s address bar to go directly to your Business Profile. For example, customers can search for “g.page/[yourcustomname]” in the address bar to find your business.

Step 4: add your address and service area

Having your physical address on your Google My Business page increases the likelihood of your business showing up in local search results. If you operate out of your home, it is understandable if you do not want your address here, so simply leave it blank.

If you do private classes, it is helpful to add your service areas so Google knows to show your services to people who are searching in your area. Make sure to add your primary services areas here and any other city where you would accept work.

Step 5: select business categories

One of the most important steps of optimizing your Google My Business profile is adding your business categories. It will help you get into the “Local Pack” when someone searches for what you offer.

Here are the results I get when I search for Yoga Studio Sacramento. Not only does it get you on the first page of google, but over 50% of click-throughs on searches with local intent go to the Local Pack (that’s huge).

There are several options for Yoga services including, yoga studio, yoga instructor, yoga retreat center, Bikram yoga studio, etc. Be sure to make your primary services your primary category.

Step 6: Add Yoga Services

This is were you can add more service categories and specific services. This is where you communicate your entire offering to Google.  Google is increasingly using the content on Google My Business profiles to deliver the best search results (because that is what they strive to do.)

Step 7: Ongoing optimization

As you have been filling out your GMB profile you have have noticed that much of the information will change over time for your business. To maximize your benefits on GMB for your yoga studio or yoga teaching business, you will want to make sure you keep your profile up-to-date!

Once a week or once a month you will want to set aside time to:

  • Update information.  This includes your hours (if they change) new types of classes or event, etc.
  • Upload photos and publish posts.
  • Monitoring and responding to reviews. Whether it is a positive or negative review, you will want to respond. This will show that you are engaged with your students, help keep your positive reviews engaged, and give you the opportunity to publicly address any negative reviews you might get.
  • Staying on top of new features so you can ensure you’re using your profile to its fullest potential.
